More About CSCS

The Cottonwood School of Civics and Science is a K-8 public school that offers a focus on experiential learning, with an emphasis on science, arts and civics. Place-Based education uses the local community as a starting point to teach concepts in core academic subjects such as language arts, mathematics, social studies, and science.

The first step is to decide if The Cottonwood School is a good choice for your child.  Read about our program, review our website, and if you want more information please attend the Open House or following Information Sessions.

Attending the Open House or Info Sessions are highly recommended, but not required. We want you to join our school community because it is the right fit for your child(ren). Our Open House and Info Sessions are geared towards adults.

If the Cottonwood School looks like a sound educational option for your family, the next step is to submit an application!

There is no preference given to those who apply early, but you must submit the application by the deadline on April 1st.  Our lottery will be held on Saturday, April 13th at 10:00 am and results will be emailed to families. Learn more about enrollment here.

Siblings of currently enrolled students bypass the lottery process and are offered an automatic spot (when there is a spot to offer) or move to the top of the waitlist if there is not a spot to offer. Applicants that live within the Portland Public School (PPS) district boundaries have preference over out of district applicants. Out of district applicants will only be considered after we have gone through our entire waitlist (by grade) of in-district applicants.
